Applied Behavior Analysis has been involved in a variety of controversies since its been introduced. Many, including those on the Autism Spectrum and parents of those on the spectrum, oppose the practice. The Child Mind Institute has explained in great detail the negative effects that ABA can have in the following article: The Controversy around ABA. The article outlines several reasons why ABA is opposed by some, including reasons such as: ABA therapy can sometimes be difficult on kids, therapy sessions can be too focused on eliminating behaviors, and limiting neurodiversity. The Child Mind Institute throughout the article notes that these reasons are truly misconceptions and does highlight the positive aspects of Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy.
